¹⁸ When he was alive, Absalom had set up a pillar^(A) for himself in the King’s Valley,^(B) for he had said, “I have no son^(C) to preserve the memory of my name.” So he gave the pillar his name. It is still called Absalom’s Monument today.

¹⁴ He was buried in his own tomb that he had made for himself in the city of David. They laid him out in a coffin that was full of spices and various mixtures of prepared ointments;^(A) then they made a great fire in his honor.^(B)

⁶⁰ and placed it in his new tomb, which he had cut into the rock. He left after rolling a great stone against the entrance of the tomb.^(A)
