¹⁹So Herod had them look everywhere for Peter. But they didn’t find him. Then Herod questioned the guards closely. He ordered that they be put to death.

Herod Dies

Then Herod went from Judea to Caesarea and stayed there. ²⁰He had been quarreling with the people of Tyre and Sidon. So they got together and asked for a meeting with him. This was because they depended on the king’s country to supply them with food. They gained the support of Blastus and then asked for peace. Blastus was a trusted personal servant of the king.

²¹The appointed day came. Herod was seated on his throne. He was wearing his royal robes. He made a speech to the people.

¹⁹After Herod had a thorough search made for him and did not find him, he cross-examined the guards and ordered that they be executed.^(A)

Herod’s Death

Then Herod went from Judea to Caesarea^(B) and stayed there. ²⁰He had been quarreling with the people of Tyre and Sidon;^(C) they now joined together and sought an audience with him. After securing the support of Blastus, a trusted personal servant of the king, they asked for peace, because they depended on the king’s country for their food supply.^(D)

²¹On the appointed day Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address to the people.
