New Living Translation
2 He had the apostle James (John’s brother) killed with a sword. 3 When Herod saw how much this pleased the Jewish people, he also arrested Peter. (This took place during the Passover celebration.[a]) 4 Then he imprisoned him, placing him under the guard of four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring Peter out for public trial after the Passover.

2 He had James, the brother of John,(A) put to death with the sword.(B) 3 When he saw that this met with approval among the Jews,(C) he proceeded to seize Peter also. This happened during the Festival of Unleavened Bread.(D) 4 After arresting him, he put him in prison, handing him over to be guarded by four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring him out for public trial after the Passover.(E)
