27 When this man had been seized by the Jews and was about to be killed by them, I arrived with my troops and rescued him because I learned that he is a Roman citizen.(A) 28 Wanting to know the charge they were accusing him of, I brought him down before their Sanhedrin. 29 I found out that the accusations were concerning questions of their law,(B) and that there was no charge that merited death or imprisonment.(C)

27 This man was seized by the Jews and they were about to kill him,(A) but I came with my troops and rescued him,(B) for I had learned that he is a Roman citizen.(C) 28 I wanted to know why they were accusing him, so I brought him to their Sanhedrin.(D) 29 I found that the accusation had to do with questions about their law,(E) but there was no charge against him(F) that deserved death or imprisonment.
