Acts 23:27-29
New Life Version
27 This man Paul was taken by the Jews. He was about to be killed by them. But I came along with my soldiers and kept him from being killed. I did this when I learned that he was a Roman citizen. 28 I wanted to know what they had against him. So I took him to the religious leaders’ court. 29 I learned they were holding him because of something about their Law. There was no reason for him to be killed or to be put in prison.

New International Version
27 This man was seized by the Jews and they were about to kill him,(A) but I came with my troops and rescued him,(B) for I had learned that he is a Roman citizen.(C) 28 I wanted to know why they were accusing him, so I brought him to their Sanhedrin.(D) 29 I found that the accusation had to do with questions about their law,(E) but there was no charge against him(F) that deserved death or imprisonment.
