Acts 23:27-29

27 This man was seized by the Jews and was about to be killed by them, but when I had learned that he was a Roman, I came with the guard and rescued him.(A) 28 Since I wanted to know the charge for which they accused him, I had him brought to their council.(B) 29 I found that he was accused concerning questions of their law but was charged with nothing deserving death or imprisonment.(C)

New International Version
27 This man was seized by the Jews and they were about to kill him,(A) but I came with my troops and rescued him,(B) for I had learned that he is a Roman citizen.(C) 28 I wanted to know why they were accusing him, so I brought him to their Sanhedrin.(D) 29 I found that the accusation had to do with questions about their law,(E) but there was no charge against him(F) that deserved death or imprisonment.
