Acts 23:27-29

27 “This man was seized by the Jews, and was about to be killed by them, when I came with the soldiers and rescued him, having learned that he was a Roman. 28 Desiring to know the cause why they accused him, I brought him down to their council. 29 I found him to be accused about questions of their law, but not to be charged with anything worthy of death or of imprisonment.

New International Version
27 This man was seized by the Jews and they were about to kill him,(A) but I came with my troops and rescued him,(B) for I had learned that he is a Roman citizen.(C) 28 I wanted to know why they were accusing him, so I brought him to their Sanhedrin.(D) 29 I found that the accusation had to do with questions about their law,(E) but there was no charge against him(F) that deserved death or imprisonment.
