7 When he arrived, the Jews who had gone down from Jerusalem surrounded him, bringing many serious charges against him, which they could not prove.(A) 8 Paul said in his defense, “I have in no way committed an offense against the law of the Jews or against the temple or against the emperor.”(B) 9 But Festus, wishing to do the Jews a favor, asked Paul, “Do you wish to go up to Jerusalem and be tried there before me on these charges?”(C)

New International Version
7 When Paul came in, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem stood around him. They brought many serious charges against him,(A) but they could not prove them.(B)
8 Then Paul made his defense: “I have done nothing wrong against the Jewish law or against the temple(C) or against Caesar.”
9 Festus, wishing to do the Jews a favor,(D) said to Paul, “Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem and stand trial before me there on these charges?”(E)
