I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, a certain man clothed in (A)linen, whose waist was (B)girded with gold of Uphaz! His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like torches of fire, his arms and feet like burnished bronze in color, (C)and the sound of his words like the voice of a multitude.

And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision; but a great terror fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves. Therefore I was left alone when I saw this great vision, and no strength remained in me; for my [a]vigor was turned to [b]frailty in me, and I retained no strength. Yet I heard the sound of his words; and while I heard the sound of his words I was in a deep sleep on my face, with my face to the ground.

Prophecies Concerning Persia and Greece

10 (D)Suddenly, a hand touched me, which made me tremble on my knees and on the palms of my hands. 11 And he said to me, “O Daniel, (E)man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you.” While he was speaking this word to me, I stood trembling.

I raised my eyes and looked, and behold, there was a man (A)dressed in linen, whose waist (B)had a belt of pure (C)gold of Uphaz. His body also was like topaz, his face [a]had the appearance of lightning, (D)his eyes were like flaming torches, his arms and feet like the gleam of polished bronze, and the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude. Now I, Daniel, (E)alone saw the vision, while the (F)men who were with me did not see the vision; nevertheless, a great (G)fear fell on them, and they ran away to hide themselves. So I was (H)left alone and saw this great vision; yet (I)no strength was left in me, for my complexion turned to [b]a deathly pallor, and I retained no strength. But I heard the sound of his words; and as soon as I heard the sound of his words, I (J)fell into a deep sleep on my face, with my face to the ground.

10 Then behold, a hand (K)touched me and shook me on my [c]hands and knees. 11 And he said to me, “(L)Daniel, [d]you who are treasured, (M)understand the words that I am about to tell you and (N)stand at your place, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up (O)trembling.

His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.

And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves.
