²² strengthening the souls of ^(A)the disciples, encouraging them to continue in ^(B)the faith, and saying, “^(C)It is through many tribulations that we must enter the kingdom of God.”

³² But remember ^(A)the former days, ^[a]when, after being ^(B)enlightened, you endured a great ^(C)conflict of sufferings,

⁷ It is for discipline that you endure; ^(C)God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? ⁸ But if you are without discipline, ^(D)of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. ⁹ Furthermore, we had ^[a]earthly fathers to discipline us, and we ^(E)respected them; shall we not much more be subject to ^(F)the Father of ^[b]spirits, and ^(G)live? ¹⁰ For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, ^(H)so that we may share His holiness. ^11 (I)For the moment, all discipline seems not to be pleasant, but painful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterward it yields the ^(J)peaceful fruit of righteousness.

²⁰ The one sown with seed on the rocky places, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; ²¹ yet he has no firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution occurs because of the ^[a]word, immediately he ^[b](A)falls away.

⁴ As a result, we ourselves ^(A)speak proudly of you among ^(B)the churches of God for your ^[a]perseverance and faith ^[b](C)in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure.
