^17 (A)rescuing you ^(B)from the Jewish people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending you, ¹⁸ to ^(C)open their eyes so that they may turn from ^(D)darkness to light, and from the ^[a]power of ^(E)Satan to God, that they may receive ^(F)forgiveness of sins and an ^(G)inheritance among those who have been sanctified by ^(H)faith in Me.’

⁸ the one who practices sin is ^(A)of the devil; for the devil ^[a]has been sinning from the beginning. ^(B)The Son of God ^(C)appeared for this purpose, ^(D)to destroy the works of the devil. ⁹ No one who has been ^(E)born of God practices sin, because His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin continually, because he has been born of God.

^18 (A)We know that ^(B)no one who has been born of God ^[a]sins; but He who was born of God ^(C)keeps him, and ^(D)the evil one does not ^(E)touch him.

⁴⁷ and that ^(A)repentance ^[a]for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed ^[b]in His name to ^(B)all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

The Truth Will Set You Free

³¹ So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “^(A)If you continue in My word, then you are truly My ^(B)disciples; ³² and ^(C)you will know the truth, and ^(D)the truth will set you free.”

³⁶ So if the Son ^(A)sets you free, you really will be free.

¹⁸ and after being ^(A)freed from sin, you became slaves to righteousness.

²² But now having been ^(A)freed from sin and ^(B)enslaved to God, you ^[a]derive your ^[b](C)benefit, ^[c]resulting in sanctification, and ^(D)the outcome, eternal life.
