Amos 1:2-4 American Standard Version (ASV)

And he said, Jehovah will roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the [a]pastures of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither.

Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Damascus, yea, for four, I will not [b]turn away [c]the punishment thereof; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron. But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, and it shall devour the palaces of Ben-hadad.

He said:

“The Lord roars from Zion
    and thunders from Jerusalem;
the pastures of the shepherds dry up,
    and the top of Carmel withers.”

Judgment on Israel’s Neighbors

This is what the Lord says:

“For three sins of Damascus,
    even for four, I will not relent.
Because she threshed Gilead
    with sledges having iron teeth,
I will send fire on the house of Hazael
    that will consume the fortresses of Ben-Hadad.
