Colossians 2:14-15

14 having canceled (A)the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and (B)He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 When He had [a](C)disarmed the (D)rulers and authorities, He (E)made a public display of them, having (F)triumphed over them through [b]Him.

Amplified Bible
14 having canceled out the [a]certificate of debt consisting of [b]legal demands [which were in force] against us and which were hostile to us. And this certificate He has set aside and completely removed by nailing it to the cross. 15 When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities [those supernatural forces of evil operating against us], He made a public example of them [exhibiting them as captives in His triumphal procession], having triumphed over them through [c]the cross.

- Colossians 2:14 This term refers to a debtor’s handwritten note acknowledging the debt.
- Colossians 2:14 I.e. the requirements found in the Mosaic Law which were violated. The debt is the punishment due for the violator’s sins. Gentiles were never directly liable to the Law, but as Paul explains in Rom 2:12-16, God holds them responsible for violating the principles of the Law that they acknowledge of their own volition.
- Colossians 2:15 Lit it or Him.

14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness,(A) which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.(B) 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities,(C) he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them(D) by the cross.[a]
