8 See to it that no one enslaves you through philosophy and empty deceit according to human tradition, according to the basic principles of the world,[a] and not according to the Messiah,[b] 9 because all the essence[c] of deity inhabits him in bodily form. 10 And you have been filled by him, who is the head of every ruler and authority.

8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy,(A) which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces[a] of this world(B) rather than on Christ.
9 For in Christ all the fullness(C) of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head(D) over every power and authority.(E)
