6 Among those chosen were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, all of whom were from the tribe of Judah. 7 The chief official gave them new names: Belteshazzar, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
8 Daniel made up his mind not to let himself become ritually unclean by eating the food and drinking the wine of the royal court, so he asked Ashpenaz to help him,

New International Version
6 Among those who were chosen were some from Judah: Daniel,(A) Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.(B) 7 The chief official gave them new names: to Daniel, the name Belteshazzar;(C) to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.(D)
8 But Daniel resolved not to defile(E) himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.
