16 But he who comes against him will (A)do as he pleases, and (B)no one will be able to withstand him; he will also stay for a time in the [a](C)Beautiful Land, with destruction in his hand. 17 And he will (D)set his [b]mind on coming with the power of his entire kingdom, [c]bringing with him [d]a proposal of peace which he will put into effect; he will also give him the daughter of women to ruin it. But she will not take a stand for him or be [e]on his side. 18 Then he will turn his face to the (E)coastlands and capture many. But a commander will put a stop to his taunting against him; moreover, he will (F)repay him for his taunting.

16 The invader will do as he pleases;(A) no one will be able to stand against him.(B) He will establish himself in the Beautiful Land and will have the power to destroy it.(C) 17 He will determine to come with the might of his entire kingdom and will make an alliance with the king of the South. And he will give him a daughter in marriage in order to overthrow the kingdom, but his plans[a] will not succeed(D) or help him. 18 Then he will turn his attention to the coastlands(E) and will take many of them, but a commander will put an end to his insolence and will turn his insolence back on him.(F)
