17 He will decide to occupy his entire kingdom by force. He will make an agreement with him and will give him a wife, intending to destroy him,[a] but it won’t succeed and it won’t happen.[b] 18 He will turn his face to the coastlands, capturing many people. A commander will put an end to his disgrace,[c] even though he won’t repay that disgrace. 19 Then he will turn his attention to the walled fortresses of his own country but will stumble, fall, and disappear.

17 He will determine to come with the might of his entire kingdom and will make an alliance with the king of the South. And he will give him a daughter in marriage in order to overthrow the kingdom, but his plans[a] will not succeed(A) or help him. 18 Then he will turn his attention to the coastlands(B) and will take many of them, but a commander will put an end to his insolence and will turn his insolence back on him.(C) 19 After this, he will turn back toward the fortresses of his own country but will stumble and fall,(D) to be seen no more.(E)
