⁴⁸ Then the king ^[a](A)promoted Daniel and gave him many great gifts, and he made him ruler over the entire ^(B)province of Babylon, and chief ^[b]prefect over all the wise men of Babylon. ⁴⁹ And Daniel made a request of the king, and he ^(C)appointed ^(D)Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego over the administration of the province of Babylon, while Daniel was at the king’s ^[c](E)court.

¹⁶ But I personally have heard about you, that you are able to give interpretations and solve difficult problems. Now if you are able to read the inscription and make its ^(A)interpretation known to me, you will be ^(B)clothed with purple and wear a necklace of gold around your neck, and you will have authority as the third ruler in the kingdom.”

²⁹ Then Belshazzar gave orders, and they ^(A)clothed Daniel with purple and put a necklace of gold around his neck, and issued a proclamation concerning him that he now had authority as the third ruler in the kingdom.
