Daniel 3:8-10
New English Translation
8 Now[a] at that time certain[b] Chaldeans came forward and brought malicious accusations against[c] the Jews. 9 They said[d] to King Nebuchadnezzar, “O king, live forever![e] 10 You have issued an edict, O king, that everyone must bow down and pay homage to the golden statue when they hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, trigon, harp, pipes, and all kinds of music.

- Daniel 3:8 tn Aram “ate the pieces of.” This is a rather vivid idiom for slander.
- Daniel 3:9 tn Aram “answered and said,” a common Aramaic idiom that occurs repeatedly in this chapter.
- Daniel 3:9 sn O king, live forever! is a comment of typical court courtesy that is not necessarily indicative of the real sentiments of the speaker. Ancient oriental court protocol could sometimes require a certain amount of hypocrisy.

8 At this time some astrologers[a](A) came forward and denounced the Jews. 9 They said to King Nebuchadnezzar, “May the king live forever!(B) 10 Your Majesty has issued a decree(C) that everyone who hears the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music must fall down and worship the image of gold,(D)
