22 “But you his successor,[a] Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart even though[b] you knew all this. 23 And now you have exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven, and the vessels of his temple you have brought in before you, and you and your lords,[c] your wives and your concubines, have been drinking wine from[d] them, and you have praised the gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone[e] that do not see and do not hear and do not know, but the God who holds your life in his hand[f] and all of your ways come from him,[g] you have not honored. 24 So then the palm of the hand was sent out from his presence and this writing was inscribed.

You had the goblets from his temple brought to you, and you and your nobles, your wives(C) and your concubines drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand.(D) But you did not honor the God who holds in his hand your life(E) and all your ways.(F) 24 Therefore he sent the hand that wrote the inscription.
