22 As for the horn that was broken and replaced by four other horns, four kingdoms shall rise from his nation but be lacking his power.

23 “At the end of their reign,
    when their sins have reached their zenith,
a king will arise,
    bold in countenance and skilled in intrigue.
24 His strength will continually increase,
    but not by any power of his own.
He will wreak untold havoc
    and succeed in whatever he does.
He will destroy mighty nations
    as well as the holy ones, God’s people.

23 “In the latter part of their reign, when rebels have become completely wicked, a fierce-looking king, a master of intrigue, will arise. 24 He will become very strong, but not by his own power. He will cause astounding devastation and will succeed in whatever he does. He will destroy those who are mighty, the holy people.(A)
