Daniel 8:9-12 Contemporary English Version (CEV)

A little horn came from one of these, and its power reached to the south, the east, and even to the holy land.[a] 10 It became so strong that it attacked the stars in the sky, which were heaven’s army.[b] Then it threw some of them down to the earth and stomped on them. 11-12 It humiliated heaven’s army and dishonored its leader[c] by keeping him from offering the daily sacrifices. In fact, it was so terrible that it even disgraced the temple and wiped out true worship. It also did everything else it wanted to do.

Footnotes:

  2. 8.10 heaven’s army: In verses 10-13 the Hebrew word translated “heaven’s army” may also mean “God’s people.”
  3. 8.11,12 leader: Hebrew “prince.”

Daniel 8:9-11 New International Version (NIV)

Out of one of them came another horn, which started small but grew in power to the south and to the east and toward the Beautiful Land. 10 It grew until it reached the host of the heavens, and it threw some of the starry host down to the earth and trampled on them. 11 It set itself up to be as great as the commander of the army of the Lord; it took away the daily sacrifice from the Lord, and his sanctuary was thrown down.
