Deuteronomy 21:22-23
Amplified Bible
22 “And if a man has committed a sin worthy of death, and he is put to death and [[a]afterward] you hang him on a tree [as a public example],(A) 23 his body shall not hang all night on the tree, but you shall most certainly bury him on the same day (for he who is hanged is cursed by God), so that you do not defile your land which the Lord your God gives you as an inheritance.(B)

- Deuteronomy 21:22 In the time of the Roman Empire, the rabbis insisted that the Jews were more humane than the Romans because Jews did not use crucifixion as a means of execution. They maintained that only the corpse was hanged.

22 If someone guilty of a capital offense(A) is put to death and their body is exposed on a pole, 23 you must not leave the body hanging on the pole overnight.(B) Be sure to bury(C) it that same day, because anyone who is hung on a pole is under God’s curse.(D) You must not desecrate(E) the land the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance.
