⁴ This was after he had defeated Sihon^(A) king of the Amorites,^(B) who reigned in Heshbon,^(C) and at Edrei had defeated Og^(D) king of Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth.^(E)

³¹ The Lord said to me, “See, I have begun to deliver Sihon and his country over to you. Now begin to conquer and possess his land.”^(A)

³² When Sihon and all his army came out to meet us in battle^(B) at Jahaz, ³³ the Lord our God delivered^(C) him over to us and we struck him down,^(D) together with his sons and his whole army.

Defeat of Og King of Bashan

3 Next we turned and went up along the road toward Bashan, and Og king of Bashan^(A) with his whole army marched out to meet us in battle at Edrei.^{(B) 2} The Lord said to me, “Do not be afraid^(C) of him, for I have delivered him into your hands, along with his whole army and his land. Do to him what you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon.”

³ So the Lord our God also gave into our hands Og king of Bashan and all his army. We struck them down,^(D) leaving no survivors.^(E)

²³ But Sihon would not let Israel pass through his territory.^(A) He mustered his entire army and marched out into the wilderness against Israel. When he reached Jahaz,^(B) he fought with Israel.^{(C) 24} Israel, however, put him to the sword^(D) and took over his land^(E) from the Arnon to the Jabbok,^(F) but only as far as the Ammonites,^(G) because their border was fortified.

³³ Then they turned and went up along the road toward Bashan^(A),^(B) and Og king of Bashan and his whole army marched out to meet them in battle at Edrei.^(C)

³⁴ The Lord said to Moses, “Do not be afraid of him, for I have delivered him into your hands, along with his whole army and his land. Do to him what you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon.^(D)”

³⁵ So they struck him down, together with his sons and his whole army, leaving them no survivors.^(E) And they took possession of his land.^(F)
