That prophet or dreamer must be put to death,(A) because he has urged rebellion against the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the place of slavery,(B) to turn you from the way the Lord your God has commanded you to walk. 15 Therefore, this is what the Lord of Armies says concerning the prophets:

I am about to feed them wormwood(C)
and give them poisoned water to drink,(D)
for from the prophets of Jerusalem
ungodliness[a] has spread throughout the land.

16 This is what the Lord of Armies says: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you. They are deluding you. They speak visions from their own minds,(E) not from the Lord’s mouth.(F)

False Prophets Judged

This is what the Lord says

but declare war against the one
who puts nothing in their mouths.
Therefore, it will be night(C) for you—
without visions;
it will grow dark for you—
without divination.(D)
The sun will set(E) on these prophets,
and the daylight will turn black over them.
