Tithes

²² Be sure to set aside a tenth^(A) of all that your fields produce each year. ²³ Eat^(B) the tithe of your grain, new wine^(C) and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name,^(D) so that you may learn^(E) to revere^(F) the Lord your God always. ²⁴ But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the Lord your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the Lord will choose to put his Name is so far away), ²⁵ then exchange^(G) your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the Lord your God will choose. ²⁶ Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink,^(H) or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the Lord your God and rejoice.^{(I) 27} And do not neglect the Levites^(J) living in your towns, for they have no allotment or inheritance of their own.^(K)

The Firstborn Animals

¹⁹ Set apart for the Lord^(A) your God every firstborn male^(B) of your herds and flocks.^(C) Do not put the firstborn of your cows to work, and do not shear the firstborn of your sheep.^{(D) 20} Each year you and your family are to eat them in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he will choose.^{(E) 21} If an animal has a defect,^(F) is lame or blind, or has any serious flaw, you must not sacrifice it to the Lord your God.^{(G) 22} You are to eat it in your own towns. Both the ceremonially unclean and the clean may eat it, as if it were gazelle or deer.^{(H) 23} But you must not eat the blood; pour it out on the ground like water.^(I)

²¹ If you make a vow to the Lord your God, do not be slow to pay it,^(A) for the Lord your God will certainly demand it of you and you will be guilty of sin.^{(B) 22} But if you refrain from making a vow, you will not be guilty.^{(C) 23} Whatever your lips utter you must be sure to do, because you made your vow freely to the Lord your God with your own mouth.

¹² When you have finished setting aside a tenth^(A) of all your produce in the third year, the year of the tithe,^(B) you shall give it to the Levite, the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow, so that they may eat in your towns and be satisfied. ¹³ Then say to the Lord your God: “I have removed from my house the sacred portion and have given it to the Levite, the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow, according to all you commanded. I have not turned aside from your commands nor have I forgotten any of them.^{(C) 14} I have not eaten any of the sacred portion while I was in mourning, nor have I removed any of it while I was unclean,^(D) nor have I offered any of it to the dead. I have obeyed the Lord my God; I have done everything you commanded me. ¹⁵ Look down from heaven,^(E) your holy dwelling place, and bless^(F) your people Israel and the land you have given us as you promised on oath to our ancestors, a land flowing with milk and honey.”

³ “‘If the offering is a burnt offering^(A) from the herd,^(B) you are to offer a male without defect.^(C) You must present it at the entrance to the tent^(D) of meeting so that it will be acceptable^(E) to the Lord. ⁴ You are to lay your hand on the head^(F) of the burnt offering,^(G) and it will be accepted^(H) on your behalf to make atonement^(I) for you. ⁵ You are to slaughter^(J) the young bull^(K) before the Lord, and then Aaron’s sons^(L) the priests shall bring the blood and splash it against the sides of the altar^(M) at the entrance to the tent of meeting. ⁶ You are to skin^(N) the burnt offering and cut it into pieces.^{(O) 7} The sons of Aaron the priest are to put fire on the altar and arrange wood^(P) on the fire. ⁸ Then Aaron’s sons the priests shall arrange the pieces, including the head and the fat,^(Q) on the wood^(R) that is burning on the altar. ⁹ You are to wash the internal organs and the legs with water,^(S) and the priest is to burn all of it^(T) on the altar.^(U) It is a burnt offering,^(V) a food offering,^(W) an aroma pleasing to the Lord.^(X)

¹⁰ “‘If the offering is a burnt offering from the flock, from either the sheep^(Y) or the goats,^(Z) you are to offer a male without defect. ¹¹ You are to slaughter it at the north side of the altar^(AA) before the Lord, and Aaron’s sons the priests shall splash its blood against the sides of the altar.^{(AB) 12} You are to cut it into pieces, and the priest shall arrange them, including the head and the fat,^(AC) on the wood that is burning on the altar. ¹³ You are to wash the internal organs and the legs with water,^(AD) and the priest is to bring all of them and burn them^(AE) on the altar.^(AF) It is a burnt offering,^(AG) a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord.

¹⁴ “‘If the offering to the Lord is a burnt offering of birds, you are to offer a dove or a young pigeon.^{(AH) 15} The priest shall bring it to the altar, wring off the head^(AI) and burn it on the altar; its blood shall be drained out on the side of the altar.^{(AJ) 16} He is to remove the crop and the feathers^[a] and throw them down east of the altar where the ashes^(AK) are. ¹⁷ He shall tear it open by the wings, not dividing it completely,^(AL) and then the priest shall burn it on the wood^(AM) that is burning on the altar. It is a burnt offering, a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord.

The Fellowship Offering

3 “‘If your offering is a fellowship offering,^(A) and you offer an animal from the herd, whether male or female, you are to present before the Lord an animal without defect.^{(B) 2} You are to lay your hand on the head^(C) of your offering and slaughter it^(D) at the entrance to the tent of meeting.^(E) Then Aaron’s sons the priests shall splash^(F) the blood against the sides^(G) of the altar.^{(H) 3} From the fellowship offering you are to bring a food offering to the Lord: the internal organs^(I) and all the fat^(J) that is connected to them, ⁴ both kidneys^(K) with the fat on them near the loins, and the long lobe of the liver, which you will remove with the kidneys. ⁵ Then Aaron’s sons^(L) are to burn it on the altar^(M) on top of the burnt offering^(N) that is lying on the burning wood;^(O) it is a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord.^(P)

⁶ “‘If you offer an animal from the flock as a fellowship offering^(Q) to the Lord, you are to offer a male or female without defect. ⁷ If you offer a lamb,^(R) you are to present it before the Lord,^{(S) 8} lay your hand on its head and slaughter it^(T) in front of the tent of meeting. Then Aaron’s sons shall splash its blood against the sides of the altar. ⁹ From the fellowship offering you are to bring a food offering^(U) to the Lord: its fat, the entire fat tail cut off close to the backbone, the internal organs and all the fat that is connected to them, ¹⁰ both kidneys with the fat on them near the loins, and the long lobe of the liver, which you will remove with the kidneys. ¹¹ The priest shall burn them on the altar^(V) as a food offering^(W) presented to the Lord.^(X)

¹² “‘If your offering is a goat,^(Y) you are to present it before the Lord, ¹³ lay your hand on its head and slaughter it in front of the tent of meeting. Then Aaron’s sons shall splash^(Z) its blood against the sides of the altar.^{(AA) 14} From what you offer you are to present this food offering to the Lord: the internal organs and all the fat that is connected to them, ¹⁵ both kidneys with the fat on them near the loins, and the long lobe of the liver, which you will remove with the kidneys.^{(AB) 16} The priest shall burn them on the altar^(AC) as a food offering,^(AD) a pleasing aroma.^(AE) All the fat^(AF) is the Lord’s.^(AG)

¹⁷ “‘This is a lasting ordinance^(AH) for the generations to come,^(AI) wherever you live:^(AJ) You must not eat any fat or any blood.^(AK)’”

² “If anyone sins and is unfaithful to the Lord^(A) by deceiving a neighbor^(B) about something entrusted to them or left in their care^(C) or about something stolen, or if they cheat^(D) their neighbor, ³ or if they find lost property and lie about it,^(E) or if they swear falsely^(F) about any such sin that people may commit— ⁴ when they sin in any of these ways and realize their guilt, they must return^(G) what they have stolen or taken by extortion, or what was entrusted to them, or the lost property they found, ⁵ or whatever it was they swore falsely about. They must make restitution^(H) in full, add a fifth of the value to it and give it all to the owner on the day they present their guilt offering.^{(I) 6} And as a penalty they must bring to the priest, that is, to the Lord, their guilt offering,^(J) a ram from the flock, one without defect and of the proper value.^(K)

²⁹ “Say to the Israelites: ‘Anyone who brings a fellowship offering to the Lord is to bring part of it as their sacrifice to the Lord. ³⁰ With their own hands they are to present the food offering to the Lord; they are to bring the fat, together with the breast, and wave the breast before the Lord as a wave offering.^{(A) 31} The priest shall burn the fat on the altar,^(B) but the breast belongs to Aaron and his sons.^{(C) 32} You are to give the right thigh of your fellowship offerings to the priest as a contribution.^{(D) 33} The son of Aaron who offers the blood and the fat of the fellowship offering shall have the right thigh as his share. ³⁴ From the fellowship offerings of the Israelites, I have taken the breast that is waved and the thigh^(E) that is presented and have given them to Aaron the priest and his sons^(F) as their perpetual share from the Israelites.’”

³⁵ This is the portion of the food offerings presented to the Lord that were allotted to Aaron and his sons on the day they were presented to serve the Lord as priests. ³⁶ On the day they were anointed,^(G) the Lord commanded that the Israelites give this to them as their perpetual share for the generations to come.

Redeeming What Is the Lord’s

27 The Lord said to Moses, ² “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘If anyone makes a special vow^(A) to dedicate a person to the Lord by giving the equivalent value, ³ set the value of a male between the ages of twenty and sixty at fifty shekels^[a] of silver, according to the sanctuary shekel^[b];^{(B) 4} for a female, set her value at thirty shekels^[c]; ⁵ for a person between the ages of five and twenty, set the value of a male at twenty shekels^[d](C) and of a female at ten shekels^[e]; ⁶ for a person between one month and five years, set the value of a male at five shekels^[f](D) of silver and that of a female at three shekels^[g] of silver; ⁷ for a person sixty years old or more, set the value of a male at fifteen shekels^[h] and of a female at ten shekels. ⁸ If anyone making the vow is too poor to pay^(E) the specified amount, the person being dedicated is to be presented to the priest, who will set the value^(F) according to what the one making the vow can afford.
