Deuteronomy 20:7-9

7 Or is there anyone here who is engaged but not yet married? He may leave and go back to his house; otherwise, he might die in the battle and someone else would marry his fiancée.”
8 The officials will continue to address the troops, stating: “Is there anyone here who is afraid and discouraged? He can leave and go back to his house; otherwise, his comrades might lose courage just as he has.” 9 Once the officials have completed their speech to the troops, the army commanders will assume leadership of the forces.

New International Version
7 Has anyone become pledged to a woman and not married her? Let him go home, or he may die in battle and someone else marry her.(A)” 8 Then the officers shall add, “Is anyone afraid or fainthearted? Let him go home so that his fellow soldiers will not become disheartened too.”(B) 9 When the officers have finished speaking to the army, they shall appoint commanders over it.
