He should go back home; otherwise his fear may demoralize his comrades as well.’ When the officials have finished speaking with the soldiers, commanders are to be appointed to lead the army.

Has anyone become pledged to a woman and not married her? Let him go home, or he may die in battle and someone else marry her.(A) Then the officers shall add, “Is anyone afraid or fainthearted?
