Deuteronomy 20:7-9
The Voice
7 Has anyone become engaged to a woman but hasn’t consummated the marriage? Go back to your house, because if you died in this battle, someone else would take her.” 8 They’ll continue, “Is anyone here afraid or intimidated? You can go back home too! We don’t want you to make everyone else as scared as you are!” 9 When the officials have finished speaking to the troops, they’ll appoint commanders to lead each section of the army.

New International Version
7 Has anyone become pledged to a woman and not married her? Let him go home, or he may die in battle and someone else marry her.(A)” 8 Then the officers shall add, “Is anyone afraid or fainthearted? Let him go home so that his fellow soldiers will not become disheartened too.”(B) 9 When the officers have finished speaking to the army, they shall appoint commanders over it.
