Chapter 24
Marriage Laws.[a] 1 If a man marries a woman, and after they are married she becomes displeasing to him because he has discovered something indecent about her, and he writes a bill of divorce and puts it in her hand, and he sends her forth from his house, 2 then after she has left his house, she can become the wife of another man.

- Deuteronomy 24:1 Divorce, like polygamy (see Deut 21:15), was customary at that period, and in both cases the law simply reduced the drawbacks, without approving the practices (see Mt 19:7-9).

24 If a man marries a woman who becomes displeasing to him(A) because he finds something indecent about her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce,(B) gives it to her and sends her from his house, 2 and if after she leaves his house she becomes the wife of another man,
