⁶⁸ The Lord will send you back in ships to Egypt, by a route which I told you that you would never see again;^(A) and there you will offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but there will be no buyer.

The Governance of the King. ¹⁰ Samuel delivered the message of the Lord in full to those who were asking him for a king. ¹¹ He told them: “The governance of the king who will rule you will be as follows: He will take your sons and assign them to his chariots and horses, and they will run before his chariot.^{(A) 12} He will appoint from among them his commanders of thousands and of hundreds. He will make them do his plowing and harvesting and produce his weapons of war and chariotry.^(B)

Solomon’s Riches: Chariots and Horses. ^26 (A)Solomon amassed chariots and horses; he had one thousand four hundred chariots and twelve thousand horses; these he allocated among the chariot cities and to the king’s service in Jerusalem. ^27 (B)The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars as numerous as the sycamores of the Shephelah. ²⁸ Solomon’s horses were imported from Egypt and from Cilicia, where the king’s merchants purchased them. ²⁹ A chariot imported from Egypt cost six hundred shekels of silver, a horse one hundred and fifty shekels; they were exported at these rates to all the Hittite and Aramean kings.
