²⁴ All the nations will say, ‘^(A)Why has the Lord done thus to this land? Why this great ^[a]outburst of anger?’ ²⁵ Then men will say, ‘^(B)Because they forsook the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt. ²⁶ They went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods whom they have not known and whom He had not ^[b]allotted to them.

²¹ As for this house, which was exalted, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and say, ‘^(A)Why has the Lord done thus to this land and to this house?’

⁸ “Many nations will pass by this city; and they will ^(A)say to one another, ‘Why has the Lord done thus to this great city?’ ⁹ Then they will ^[a]answer, ‘Because they ^(B)forsook the covenant of the Lord their God and bowed down to other gods and served them.’”
