Deuteronomy 32:8-10

Contemporary English Version

⁸^(A) that God Most High
    gave land to every nation.
He assigned a guardian angel
    to each of them,^[a]
⁹but the Lord himself
    takes care of Israel.^[b]

¹⁰Israel, the Lord discovered you
in a barren desert
filled with howling winds.
God became your fortress,
protecting you as though
you were his own eyes.

⁸When the Most High^(A) gave the nations their inheritance,
    when he divided all mankind,^(B)
he set up boundaries^(C) for the peoples
    according to the number of the sons of Israel.^[a]^(D)
⁹For the Lord’s portion^(E) is his people,
    Jacob his allotted inheritance.^(F)

¹⁰In a desert^(G) land he found him,
in a barren and howling waste.^(H)
He shielded^(I) him and cared for him;
he guarded him as the apple of his eye,^(J)
