¹⁹ When you look to the heavens and see the sun, moon, and stars—all the stars in the sky—do not be led astray to bow in worship to them and serve them.^(A) The Lord your God has provided them for all people everywhere under heaven.^(B)

⁸ Though this temple is now exalted,^[a] everyone who passes by will be appalled and will scoff.^[b] They will say, “Why did the Lord do this to this land and this temple?”^{(A) 9} Then they will say, “Because they abandoned the Lord their God who brought their ancestors out of the land of Egypt. They held on to other gods and bowed in worship to them and served them. Because of this, the Lord brought all this ruin on them.”^(B)

⁸ “Many nations will pass by this city and ask one another, ‘Why did the Lord do such a thing to this great city?’ ⁹ They will answer, ‘Because they abandoned the covenant^(A) of the Lord their God and bowed in worship to other gods and served them.’”^(B)
