Deuteronomy 4:9-11

9 “However, take care[a] for yourself and watch your inner self[b] closely, so that you do not forget the things that your eyes have seen, so that they do not slip from your mind all the days of your life; and you shall make them known to your children and to your grandchildren.[c] 10 Remember the day that you stood before[d] Yahweh your God at Horeb when Yahweh said to me,[e] ‘Summon for me the people so that I can tell them my words, that they may learn to fear me all of the days they are alive on the earth and so that they may teach their children.’ 11 And so you came near, and you stood under the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire up to the heart of the heaven, dark with a very thick cloud.[f]

9 Only be careful,(A) and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach(B) them to your children(C) and to their children after them. 10 Remember the day you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb,(D) when he said to me, “Assemble the people before me to hear my words so that they may learn(E) to revere(F) me as long as they live in the land(G) and may teach(H) them to their children.” 11 You came near and stood at the foot of the mountain(I) while it blazed with fire(J) to the very heavens, with black clouds and deep darkness.(K)
