²⁴ The Lord commanded us to follow all these statutes and to fear the Lord our God for our prosperity always and for our preservation, as it is today.

What God Requires

¹² “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you except to fear^(A) the Lord your God by walking in all his ways, to love him, and to worship the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul?^(B)

²³ You are to eat a tenth of your grain, new wine, and fresh oil, and the firstborn of your herd and flock, in the presence of the Lord your God at the place where he chooses to have his name dwell,^(A) so that you will always learn to fear^(B) the Lord your God.

¹⁹ It is to remain with him, and he is to read from it all the days of his life, so that he may learn to fear^(A) the Lord his God, to observe all the words of this instruction, and to do these statutes.

¹² Gather the people—men, women, dependents, and the resident aliens within your city gates—so that they may listen and learn to fear^(A) the Lord your God and be careful to follow all the words of this law. ¹³ Then their children^(B) who do not know the law will listen and learn to fear the Lord your God as long as you live in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”
