Deuteronomy 8:14-16

14 But when all this happens, don't be proud! Don't forget that you were once slaves in Egypt and that it was the Lord who set you free. 15 Remember how he led you in that huge and frightening desert where poisonous snakes and scorpions live. There was no water, but the Lord split open a rock, and water poured out so you could drink. 16 He also gave you manna,[a] a kind of food your ancestors had never even heard about. The Lord was testing you to make you trust him, so that later on he could be good to you.

New International Version
14 then your heart will become proud and you will forget(A) the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 15 He led you through the vast and dreadful wilderness,(B) that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes(C) and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock.(D) 16 He gave you manna(E) to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known,(F) to humble and test(G) you so that in the end it might go well with you.
