Deuteronomy 8:14-16
Revised Standard Version
14 then your heart be lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, 15 who led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with its fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground where there was no water, who brought you water out of the flinty rock, 16 who fed you in the wilderness with manna which your fathers did not know, that he might humble you and test you, to do you good in the end.

New International Version
14 then your heart will become proud and you will forget(A) the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 15 He led you through the vast and dreadful wilderness,(B) that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes(C) and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock.(D) 16 He gave you manna(E) to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known,(F) to humble and test(G) you so that in the end it might go well with you.
