² Remember that the Lord your God led you on the entire journey these forty years in the wilderness, so that he might humble you and test you to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.

¹⁶ He fed you in the wilderness with manna,^(A) which your ancestors had not known, in order to humble and test you, so that in the end he might cause you to prosper.

¹³ No temptation has come upon you except what is common to humanity. But God is faithful;^(A) he will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation he will also provide the way out^(B) so that you may be able to bear it.

¹⁷ By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac.^(A) He received the promises and yet he was offering his one and only son,

¹² Blessed is the one who endures trials, because when he has stood the test he will receive the crown^(A) of life that God^[a] has promised to those who love him.^(B)

¹³ No one undergoing a trial should say, “I am being tempted by God,” since God is not tempted by evil, and he himself doesn’t tempt anyone. ¹⁴ But each person is tempted when he is drawn away and enticed by his own evil desire.^(C)
