⁷ Break camp and advance into the hill country of the Amorites;^(A) go to all the neighboring peoples in the Arabah,^(B) in the mountains, in the western foothills, in the Negev^(C) and along the coast, to the land of the Canaanites^(D) and to Lebanon,^(E) as far as the great river, the Euphrates.^(F)

⁸ So we went on past our relatives the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. We turned from^(A) the Arabah^(B) road, which comes up from Elath and Ezion Geber,^(C) and traveled along the desert road of Moab.^(D)

¹⁷ Its western border was the Jordan in the Arabah,^(A) from Kinnereth^(B) to the Sea of the Arabah^(C) (that is, the Dead Sea^(D)), below the slopes of Pisgah.

¹⁶ the water from upstream stopped flowing.^(A) It piled up in a heap^(B) a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan,^(C) while the water flowing down^(D) to the Sea of the Arabah^(E) (that is, the Dead Sea^(F)) was completely cut off.^(G) So the people crossed over opposite Jericho.^(H)

¹⁴ When the king of Ai saw this, he and all the men of the city hurried out early in the morning to meet Israel in battle at a certain place overlooking the Arabah.^(A) But he did not know^(B) that an ambush had been set against him behind the city.

² and to the northern kings who were in the mountains, in the Arabah^(A) south of Kinnereth,^(B) in the western foothills and in Naphoth Dor^(C) on the west;

⁸ He said to me, “This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah,^[a](A) where it enters the Dead Sea. When it empties into the sea, the salty water there becomes fresh.^(B)
