⁵ take the man or woman who has done this evil deed to your city gate and stone that person to death.^{(A) 6} On the testimony of two or three witnesses a person is to be put to death, but no one is to be put to death on the testimony of only one witness.^{(B) 7} The hands of the witnesses must be the first in putting that person to death,^(C) and then the hands of all the people.^(D) You must purge the evil^(E) from among you.

²¹ Then all the men of his town are to stone him to death.^(A) You must purge the evil^(B) from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid.^(C)

²⁰ If, however, the charge is true^(A) and no proof of the young woman’s virginity can be found, ²¹ she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done an outrageous thing^(B) in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father’s house. You must purge the evil from among you.

²² If a man is found sleeping with another man’s wife, both the man who slept^(C) with her and the woman must die.^(D) You must purge the evil from Israel.

²³ If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married and he sleeps with her, ²⁴ you shall take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death—the young woman because she was in a town and did not scream for help, and the man because he violated another man’s wife. You must purge the evil from among you.^(E)

²⁵ Joshua said, “Why have you brought this trouble^(A) on us? The Lord will bring trouble on you today.”

Then all Israel stoned him,^(B) and after they had stoned the rest, they burned them.^{(C) 26} Over Achan they heaped^(D) up a large pile of rocks, which remains to this day.^(E) Then the Lord turned from his fierce anger.^(F) Therefore that place has been called the Valley of Achor^[a](G) ever since.

¹³ Then two scoundrels came and sat opposite him and brought charges against Naboth before the people, saying, “Naboth has cursed both God and the king.” So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death.^{(A) 14} Then they sent word to Jezebel: “Naboth has been stoned to death.”
