¹⁹ However, your wives,^(A) your children and your livestock^(B) (I know you have much livestock) may stay in the towns I have given you, ²⁰ until the Lord gives rest to your fellow Israelites as he has to you, and they too have taken over the land that the Lord your God is giving them across the Jordan. After that, each of you may go back to the possession I have given you.”

⁸ You are not to do as we do here today, everyone doing as they see fit,^{(A) 9} since you have not yet reached the resting place^(B) and the inheritance^(C) the Lord your God is giving you. ¹⁰ But you will cross the Jordan and settle in the land the Lord your God is giving^(D) you as an inheritance, and he will give you rest^(E) from all your enemies around you so that you will live in safety.
