And in the howling wasteland of a wilderness;
He encircled him, He cared for him,
He guarded him as ^(B)the ^[a]apple of His eye.
^11 (C)As an eagle stirs up its nest,
And hovers over its young,
^(D)He spread His wings, He caught them,
He carried them on His pinions.
^12 (E)The Lord alone guided him,
^(F)And there was no foreign god with him.

⁹ In all their distress ^[a](A)He was distressed,
And the ^(B)angel of His presence saved them;
In His ^(C)love and in His mercy He ^(D)redeemed them,
And He ^(E)lifted them and carried them all the days of old.

³ Yet it is I who taught Ephraim to walk,
^[a]I ^(A)took them in My arms;
But they did not know that I ^(B)healed them.
