³ Do not intermarry with them.^(A) Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons,

¹⁷ He must not take many wives,^(A) or his heart will be led astray.^(B) He must not accumulate^(C) large amounts of silver and gold.^(D)

¹² “But if you turn away and ally yourselves with the survivors of these nations that remain among you and if you intermarry with them^(A) and associate with them,^(B)

⁶ They took their daughters^(A) in marriage and gave their own daughters to their sons, and served their gods.^(B)

³ His father and mother replied, “Isn’t there an acceptable woman among your relatives or among all our people?^(A) Must you go to the uncircumcised^(B) Philistines to get a wife?^(C)”

But Samson said to his father, “Get her for me. She’s the right one for me.”

Solomon’s Wives

11 King Solomon, however, loved many foreign women^(A) besides Pharaoh’s daughter—Moabites, Ammonites,^(B) Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites.

² They were from nations about which the Lord had told the Israelites, “You must not intermarry^(A) with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods.” Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love.

³¹ He not only considered it trivial to commit the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, but he also married^(A) Jezebel daughter^(B) of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and began to serve Baal^(C) and worship him.

² They have taken some of their daughters^(A) as wives for themselves and their sons, and have mingled^(B) the holy race^(C) with the peoples around them. And the leaders and officials have led the way in this unfaithfulness.”^(D)
