Ecclesiastes 12:4-6
Christian Standard Bible
4 the doors at the street are shut
while the sound of the mill fades;(A)
when one rises at the sound of a bird,
and all the daughters of song grow faint.
5 Also, they are afraid of heights and dangers on the road;
the almond tree blossoms,
the grasshopper loses its spring,[a]
and the caper berry has no effect;
for the mere mortal is headed to his eternal home,(B)
and mourners will walk around in the street;(C)
6 before the silver cord is snapped,[b]
and the gold bowl is broken,(D)
and the jar is shattered at the spring,
and the wheel is broken into the well;
Ecclesiastes 12:4-6
New International Version
4 when the doors to the street are closed
and the sound of grinding fades;
when people rise up at the sound of birds,
but all their songs grow faint;(A)
5 when people are afraid of heights
and of dangers in the streets;
when the almond tree blossoms
and the grasshopper drags itself along
and desire no longer is stirred.
Then people go to their eternal home(B)
and mourners(C) go about the streets.
6 Remember him—before the silver cord is severed,
and the golden bowl is broken;
before the pitcher is shattered at the spring,
and the wheel broken at the well,
