16 It was an especially happy day for the Jews, a day of great joy and happiness.
17 Wherever the king’s command went in every province and every city, there was joy and gladness among the Jews. They were having parties and celebrating. Many of the common people from other groups became Jews. They did this because they were very afraid of the Jews.

16 For the Jews it was a time of happiness and joy,(A) gladness and honor.(B) 17 In every province and in every city to which the edict of the king came, there was joy(C) and gladness among the Jews, with feasting and celebrating. And many people of other nationalities became Jews because fear(D) of the Jews had seized them.(E)
