⁵¹ And on that very day ^(A)the Lord brought the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt ^(B)according to their ^[a]multitudes.

⁵ Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased; for their dead bodies were ^(A)spread out in the wilderness.

⁶ Now these things happened as ^(B)examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as ^(C)they indeed craved them. ⁷ Do not be ^(D)idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: “^(E)The people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to ^(F)play.” ⁸ Nor are we to commit sexual immorality, as ^(G)some of them ^[a]did, and ^(H)twenty-three thousand fell in one day. ⁹ Nor are we to put the Lord to the test, as ^(I)some of them ^[b]did, and were killed by the snakes. ¹⁰ Nor ^(J)grumble, as some of them ^[c]did, and ^(K)were killed by the ^(L)destroyer.

¹⁶ For who ^(A)provoked Him when they had heard? Indeed, ^(B)did not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses? ¹⁷ And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, ^(C)whose dead bodies fell in the wilderness? ¹⁸ And to whom did He swear ^(D)that they would not enter His rest, but to those who were ^(E)disobedient? ¹⁹ And so we see that they were not able to enter because of ^(F)unbelief.
