For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, (A)‘They are bewildered by the land; the wilderness has closed them in.’ Then (B)I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, so that he will pursue them; and I (C)will gain honor over Pharaoh and over all his army, (D)that the Egyptians may know that I am the Lord.” And they did so.

Now it was told the king of Egypt that the people had fled, and (E)the heart of Pharaoh and his servants was turned against the people; and they said, “Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?”

Pharaoh will think, ‘The Israelites are wandering around the land in confusion, hemmed in by the desert.’ And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart,(A) and he will pursue them.(B) But I will gain glory(C) for myself through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord.”(D) So the Israelites did this.

When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled,(E) Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds(F) about them and said, “What have we done? We have let the Israelites go and have lost their services!”
