24 Then the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?

25 And he cried unto the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were sweet: there he made them an ordinance and a law, and there [a]he proved them,

26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken, O Israel, unto the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is [b]right in his sight, and wilt give ear unto his commandments, and keep all his ordinances, then will I put none of these diseases upon thee, which I brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee.

24 So the people grumbled(A) against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?”(B)

25 Then Moses cried out(C) to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw(D) it into the water, and the water became fit to drink.

There the Lord issued a ruling and instruction for them and put them to the test.(E) 26 He said, “If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep(F) all his decrees,(G) I will not bring on you any of the diseases(H) I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals(I) you.”
