Exodus 17:6-8
Good News Translation
6 I will stand before you on a rock at Mount Sinai. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink.” Moses did so in the presence of the leaders of Israel.
7 The place was named Massah and Meribah,[a] because the Israelites complained and put the Lord to the test when they asked, “Is the Lord with us or not?”
War with the Amalekites
8 The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim.

Exodus 17:6-8
New International Version
6 I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb.(A) Strike(B) the rock, and water(C) will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 And he called the place Massah[a](D) and Meribah[b](E) because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the Lord saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”
The Amalekites Defeated
8 The Amalekites(F) came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim.(G)
